Hand & Wrist Surgery

Dr. Leonard Gordon trained in hand surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of California, San Francisco, and was an instructor in Anatomy at Stanford University.

After completing his training, he was Attending Surgeon in Microsurgery at Davies Medical Center in San Francisco for six years. Dr. Gordon then became Chief of Hand Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He held this position for twelve years before entering private practice in San Francisco. Dr. Gordon was director of a Hand Surgery Fellowship training program for over 20 years and is associate clinical professor of orthopaedic surgery and Adjunct associate professor of Anatomy at the University of California, San Francisco.

He is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery . He has written and taught extensively, both locally and nationally, and is active in providing surgical care in underserved areas of the world.

Hip Arthroscopy

Board Certified - American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery

Dr. Thomas Sampson trained in orthopaedic surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He has been in private practice in San Francisco since 1982. Dr. Sampson is considered a national expert in hip arthroscopy and has played a pivotal role in developing equipment and technical advancements for this procedure. He continues to give lectures and seminars, both nationally and internationally, training orthopaedic surgeons. He has also developed new techniques for shoulder arthroscopy, the "cutting block" technique, for subacromial decompression. The Learning Center at Post Street Surgery Center utilizes our digital operating room for teaching of this and other procedures. Dr. Sampson is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Her special interests include arthroscopy and rehabilitation of the knee and shoulder, as well as womens sports injuries. Dr. LaRoque is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, and teaches at the San Francisco Veterans Administration Hospital.

Pain Management

Dr. Elliot Krames received his MD degree from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1971 and completed his residency in Anesthesiology and fellowship in Obstetrical Anesthesiology at the University of California, San Francisco in 1974. Dr. Krames served as Director of Obstetrical Anesthesia at Mt. Zion Hospital of San Francisco from 1975–1983 and during that time he developed a clinical interest in the use of intrathecal morphine, first for parturients in labor and shortly thereafter, for cancer patients dying with intractable pain. Dr. Krames was the first Director of Cancer Pain Management at Mt. Zion Hospital from 1983–1987 in San Francisco and has been the Medical Director of the Pacific Pain Treatment Centers, a private interdisciplinary practice of pain medicine in San Francisco since then. Pacific Pain Treatment Centers, with offices in Concord and San Francisco, California is a clinical care center of excellence and a teaching center for fellows in pain medicine, accredited by American Board of Pain Medicine.

Dr. Krames is Board certified in Anesthesiology, credentialled by the American Board of Anesthesiology in the subspecialty of Pain Management, and is a Diplomat in Pain Medicine through the American Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Krames presently serves on the board of the National Pain Foundation as co–founder and co–chairperson and the boards of the International Neuromodulation Society and the North American Neuromodulation Society. He has served on the Boards of the, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Board of Pain Medicine, and the World Institute of Pain. Dr. Krames is Editor in Chief of Neuromodulation, journal of the International Neuromodulation Society and the official journal of the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society.

Dr. Krames has been a pioneer in the development of the therapy of intraspinal analgesia and has written extensively on implantable technologies for pain management. Dr. Krames has authored a textbook on pain medicine, titled "the Management of Acute and Chronic Pain: the Use of the "Tools of the Trade," is the author of 7 book chapters in various textbooks, is an author of 51 separate publications, has chaired 14 separate national and international meetings, and he has given more than 300 national and international talks on various topics germaine to pain medicine and neuromodulation.

Hand Surgery

Dr. George Gutierrez has practiced hand surgery in San Francisco for over 25 years. He completed his surgical training in Switzerland and did his hand surgery fellowship at the center for Plastic and Microsurgical Reconstruction of the Hand under the direction of Professor Claude E. Verdan with whom he worked with until 1977. He came to San Francisco in 1981. He is limited to hand surgery and his practice includes nerve problems, arthritis and traumatic injuries.

Dr. Levy is a Fellow of the American College of Anesthesia. He has over 20 years of experience in all facets of anesthesia and has particular expertise in cardiovascular anesthesia , which he practiced for 15 years . He completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania as well as a Pain Management and Neuroanesthesia fellowship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dr. Levy also has studied accupuncture in China and obtained a Masters Degree in Health Service Adminstration from the University of San Francisco.

Orthopaedic Spine Surgery

Dr. Rayshad Oshtory studied mechanical engineering at MIT, received his M.D. and M.B.A. from UCLA, and trained in Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University. He completed his fellowship training in spine surgery at Stanford University Medical Center and St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco. He has published peer-reviewed articles and presented at national meetings. In addition, he served as a Clinical Instructor at Stanford University Medical School.

Dr. Oshtory has a special interest in the fields of minimally invasive surgery, cervical spine surgery, and biomedical device technology. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
