The team at Post Street Surgery Center, led by Dr. Thomas Satterwhite, supports you on your journey towards selfhood and gender affirmation, whatever shape that journey might take. We believe an individual’s identity can’t necessarily be tracked on a binary of male or female. To that end, we shirk away from the “one-size-fits-all” mentality and curate personalized surgical plans that address your specific goals and expectations. If your gender identity doesn’t conform to the traditionally male or female gender expression, we provide the following non-binary options.
Non-Binary
Your Enhanced Non-Binary Route
Nullification
Nullification is suitable for patients who don’t conform to either the male or female identity. Gender nullification enables non-binary individuals to achieve a relatively smooth genital area, i.e., a smooth transition from the abdomen to the genital area. This allows gender nonconforming individuals to externalize how they feel on the inside.
Orchiectomy
Orchiectomy is a gender-affirming procedure that allows non-binary patients to achieve a body that accurately adheres to their unique expectations. This procedure involves removing one or both of the testicles through a small incision in the scrotum. The patient can choose to retain or remove the phallus according to their identity.
Penectomy
Penectomy is a procedure that removes the penis without feminizing the genital area, i.e., the penis is removed without reconstructing a vagina or vulva. The penectomy can also be combined with orchiectomy or scrotectomy, i.e., procedures that remove the testicles and scrotal sacs, for a complete gender nullification.
“Satterwhite evaluated all of my wants and needs and helped me find a surgical plan that fit my lifestyle. He is an AMAZING surgeon and one of the best doctors I have ever been treated by. He is above the REST!”
Scrotectomy
Scrotectomy is a procedure that removes the scrotal sacs after the testicles have been removed (orchiectomy). After the testicle removal, the scrotal sacs are often left intact to later facilitate female genital reconstruction. However, if you aren’t interested in vaginal or vulvar reconstruction, you can have the scrotal sacs and testicles removed completely.
Phallus-Preserving Vaginoplasty
Phallus-preserving vaginoplasty is a customized procedure that constructs a fully-functional vagina while preserving the phallus. This is in contrast with a traditional vaginoplasty, which usually involves removing the phallus completely. Phallus-reserving vaginoplasty might be the ideal option for those who want both male and female organs.
Vagina-Preserving Phalloplasty
Vagina-preserving phalloplasty is a non-standard surgery that constructs a fully-functional adult phallus while preserving the vaginal canal. This procedure is suitable for patients uninterested in urethral lengthening with phalloplasty, allowing non-binary patients to retain their vaginal canal and uterus with a fully-functional phallus.
Vulvoplasty
Vulvoplasty is a procedure wherein the penile tissues are used to recreate a functional adult vulva. This procedure is suitable for patients who want to create the vulva without creating a vaginal canal, especially if they’re uninterested in penetrative intercourse. Depending on the patient’s unique goals, they can either opt for a zero-depth vaginoplasty (no vaginal canal) or a minimal-depth vaginoplasty (shallow vaginal canal).
