Trans Men

supporting your journey towards gender affirmation

The team at Post Street Surgery Center, led by Dr. Thomas Satterwhite, supports you in your journey towards gender affirmation. We provide transgender men a wide range of reconstructive and cosmetic procedures to masculinize their body and face, replacing the traditionally feminine features with traditionally masculine ones. However, instead of following a cookie-cutter approach, Dr. Satterwhite conducts an uncommonly long consultation to understand your unique goals and concerns. We aim to help you externalize your innate identity.

Body Masculinization (BMS)

Body masculinization, also known as “man-sculpting,” is a procedure that replaces traditionally feminine features with traditionally masculine qualities. This often involves reshaping the torso, replacing an hour-glass figure with a square-shaped figure. The most common areas for body masculinization include the upper torso, abdomen, hips, flanks, buttocks, and thighs. The surgeon may use liposuction for fat redistribution, abdominoplasty to tighten the stomach, and pectoral implants to create a masculine chest.

Facial Masculinization

Facial masculinization is a collection of procedures that help you achieve a more masculine face, usually marked with a strong jaw and chin, broad forehead, and sharp angles. Facial masculinization may involve forehead lengthening, forehead contouring, cheek contouring, brow enhancement, fat removal from the cheeks, rhinoplasty, lip augmentation, jawline contouring, jaw implants, creation of Adam’s apple, hair transplantation, and more.

Top Surgery (Mastectomy)

Top surgery is often the first surgical stage in a trans man’s journey. This involves removing the unwanted fat and glandular tissues to sculpt a masculine chest. It’s also known as a “mastectomy” because it primarily removes the female breast tissues to make the chest appear flattened and masculine. Once the breast tissues are removed, the areola complex is resized and repositioned to provide a more masculine look. Dr. Satterwhite discusses all your surgical options and techniques to curate the ideal surgical plan.

“Satterwhite evaluated all of my wants and needs and helped me find a surgical plan that fit my lifestyle. He is an AMAZING surgeon and one of the best doctors I have ever been treated by. He is above the REST!”

Phalloplasty

Phalloplasty is a procedure to create a male organ, i.e., a fully-functional adult phallus with arteries, veins, and nerves. The recreated phallus preserves the blood supply, ensuring an optimal outcome. After the phalloplasty, the results can be enhanced with a penile implant, scrotal surgery, glansplasty, and other procedures. Some patients also get a urethroplasty to facilitate urination via the phallus.

Vagina-Preserving Phalloplasty

Vagina-preserving phalloplasty is a procedure that allows trans men to gain a newly-constructed phallus while preserving the vagina and uterus. This is a non-standard gender affirmation surgery suitable for trans men and non-binary individuals who want to maintain male and female organs.

Penile Implant

A penile implant is a surgical procedure that makes penetrative intercourse possible for trans men. The procedure involves inserting a semi-rigid rod or inflatable implant into the phallus and using testicular implants for the scrotum. The two-piece or three-piece implants are inflated with a pump located in the scrotum, allowing the individual to engage in penetrative intercourse.

Scrotal Surgery

Scrotal surgery is generally performed several months after the phalloplasty to transform the labia majora tissues into a realistic scrotum. Depending on the desired size of the scrotum, the surgeon may use the patient’s native tissues, a tissue expander, or silicone testicular implants. This procedure takes trans men further along on their journey towards authenticity and fulfillment.

Monsplasty

After the phalloplasty, some patients find that their scrotum hands between the legs due to enlarged pubic mons. Monsplasty, also known as a “pubic lift,” is a procedure that contours the genital area and lifts the hanging tissues from between the legs for a more aesthetically pleasing outcome.
